Integrity won’t work in the short term
The truth is that people will take shortcuts and make it in the short term; this can be sustained for months or even years but eventually, it does crumble. You can also take your time and go through the paces. Be assured that it will take longer and you will definitely go through a fair share of challenges. It will not make sense in the short term especially when you see your peers who clearly took the shorter route, make it faster and are successful way before you start seeing a thing come your way. It is even harder if you live in a society where integrity isn’t well regarded and it doesn’t make sense to do things right.
In the long term, the fruits are evident: your skill set will be unmatched and more importantly you will have become a better person. The challenges will ensure you will have growth both in your profession and in your personal life. You will be like a house built on a strong foundation that will weather any storms sent its way.
It is a choice we have to make though. You make a decision to make it by any means or to take the longer, potholed but more scenic route to the destination. Following the right path is not easy since a lot of the times, it becomes clear that integrity won’t work in the short term. It’s a long term commitment that becomes a part of you.

The world we live in at the moment is about the now. What can I get in the short term? Will I be able to get money out of this venture as fast as possible? Will this job be able to pay me ‘X’ amount in a salary immediately? I need to buy this car now. Do I need to be truthful to this person now?
Never before has the allure of shortcuts been so tantalizing. There are more opportunities now to get to what you want faster than before; you can literally jump some important steps in the process and get there. We have more people reaching success faster than ever before but we also have more people not being able to maintain success for long.
