Bills have to be paid

There is only one irrevocable truth in all this: bills have to be paid. Typically, you have to provide a solution to a problem that the world you are in needs. Sometimes what the world needs may not be your cup of tea but bills have to be paid. Your first job will not be the most glamorous but it will pay the bills. The truth may be that your current job isn’t fulfilling but it pays the bills. When you are starting out in business, the work is back breaking, mundane and exhausting but it has to be done.

There is a lot of talk about doing what you love and going for it, which I believe is great. But for you to do what you love, you need to be there and this is possible when your bills are paid. This supersedes anything else you need to do.

If you have to do some boring job for the time being as you work to what you really love, do it. If your business was started for a specific purpose but there is a complication that affects it, you will need to do something else in the meantime.

We all need to be flexible enough to make the right choices that will ensure you obey the irrevocable law: bills have to be paid.

When you become an adult, you are ushered in to the ‘amazing’ world that is paid for by bills and this will continue on till you die. You will pay for food, rent, clothes, transport, water, electricity… you get the drift. This doesn’t only apply to individual people; businesses have to pay bills to survive. A business has to pay for rent, salaries, water… the list goes on.
