At first, just getting it done is a win
In business, I expected ‘success’ immediately, sometimes I still do. I would get frustrated and angry every time something wouldn’t work or sell immediately. My idea of ‘successful’ was everything working right and making a profit in the beginning; exactly like school where I got straight As with minimal effort. The reverse has been true: every time I start something, it almost always never goes according to plan. Most of the time, it doesn’t work, it loses money and then points you in a whole different direction.
It has been a clash with reality and for a long time, I was fighting it rather than working with it. There were immediate successes but very few and they fizzled out as fast as they came. The best ones came later when I decided to wait it out and keep working on the problem until it works. Sometimes the opportunity I had envisioned doesn’t come out but a new one comes in its place. You just have to be flexible enough to see it. The possibilities are endless if you are open to them.
Successful businesspeople know one fact: you will invest a lot of time and effort in an idea before it gives anything back. At first, just getting it done is a win.

Growing up, I got straight A’s in school throughout. Not just in a few subjects, all of them. I didn’t need any coaching, study-groups or extra hours of reading; I just went to class as per the school timetable and played a lot afterwards. It was tough understanding that most of my classmates were struggling with things that came so naturally to me. A job in an office with fixed hours would have worked great for me, just like school. I did get a few jobs where I always successful but I always wanted to ‘do my own thing’.
The last time I was in employment, I was due for a promotion to head my own department and a salary raise. Even with all this, I quit to start my own business. Everyone told me that I am brilliant but very crazy; most people still do including me sometimes. There are many times I want to apply for a job but I believe that the path that I am on is the right one; it makes me uncomfortable.
