You have 5 years left.. what do you do?
Funny thing with me is I like to research and understand things. I immediately googled him and went through his Wikipedia page and read a few articles. Virgil Abloh was a trained architect who got into street fashion first then entered the world of international fashion. He eventually started his own clothing brand called Off-White before becoming The Artistic director at Louis Vuitton, the largest luxury fashion house in the World. In 2019, Abloh was diagnosed with a rare cancer called cardiac angiosarcoma, though he chose to keep it private. Even after his diagnosis, he still continued producing his best work until he eventually died yesterday.
I sat back and remembered Friday August 28th 2020 and seeing a tweet that Chadwick Boseman was no more at 43 years of age. He was also diagnosed with Colon cancer in 2016 and decided to keep it a secret from everyone except very few close friends and family. During these last 4 years of his life, he gave the world his best work in the film industry: 10 feature films including the record-breaking Black Panther. I first saw him in 2016 on the film, 'Gods of Egypt' and I liked him immediately. As usual I googled him and started watching his previous films and every one he did after that. After Black Panther, he just became 'The King' to me. Learning of his death really affected me but it was his courage, strength and tenacity to keep doing his best despite the ravaging effects of cancer and its corresponding treatment that still lives with me.
I know many of you have a personal story: a father, a mother, a sibling, a spouse or a friend who is battling a life-threatening disease. You are crushed each time you see them lose weight, get weak and go through pain. What amazes you though is that they will still find time to be a parent, do some house chores, go to work, live life and in the midst of it all, make you laugh. All this is going on with minimal complaints. The strength of the human spirit despite great odds; it's amazing. If it was you and you had less than 5 years to live, what would you do?
Rest in peace Virgil Abloh. Rest in Peace Chadwick Boseman. Rest in peace to all our loved ones who fought to the end.

I was scrolling through twitter yesterday and I see this name trending: Virgil Abloh. I have no idea who he is but from the tweets I could tell he is a big deal. He was trending because he died on Sunday 28th November 2021 at just 41 years of age. I see tweets from big names honouring him and praising his work in the fashion industry. No wonder I had no idea who he was. I love design and I have an eye for making great logos, brand identities, beautiful websites, photography and film... I like making things look good is what I am saying. One thing I am not good at is dressing up; my best attempts at choosing clothes to wear are not impressive. If you meet me looking really good, it is definitely a fluke, I got help or you may be seriously intoxicated. So I wouldn't know the goings on in the fashion industry.
