No, that idea won't work

When a bright business idea pops up in your head, it is like you are the one who lights up all the stars; not just a light bulb.

You can see how it will work out; how your innovations will change the very way people live. In Steve Jobs' own words: put a dent in the Universe.

Then you tell a friend, a spouse, your parents, a colleague, you name it. They are very intelligent people, maybe they've been in business for many years, been business consultants to the biggest firms around. They are part of the demographic that you intend to target. They can advise you based on the decades-long experience they have had in handling business. They can tell you of similar amazing ideas that failed. Then, they tell you, "Your idea just won't work."

You are crushed; like a bolt of lightning, it hurts.

The first option is to give up immediately. Valid decision. You may have a good paying job and it would be wise to continue putting all your efforts there.

Second option: try it, on a small scale at first. You don't need to quit your job; you can sacrifice time out of your work schedule to work on your idea. Test it and see the results for yourself.

The truth is it may NOT work but there is also a chance that it will. If it doesn't, it is important to get the lessons; it may be that the initial idea needed to twicking so that it can work. Better yet, trying could be the thing that exposes you to a whole new different direction of thinking. It's a win win.

Your ideas will not always get the support from people especially the closest ones to you. It is fine; no need to be mad and emotional about it. It is your idea; you can't expect people to see things the way you do. Take up the challenge to work on it.
